Killane Manor is a newly built, award-winning housing development nestled between the bustling villages of Galgorm and Ahoghill. Situated close to prestigious Primary and Secondary Schools, recreational parks, a gym, a golf course & spa, food establishments, and just a short ten minute drive into Ballymena Town Centre, it’s proven popular with young couples and families looking to put down their roots. It’s the perfect mix of town and country life!
The quiet and picturesque cul-de-sac is made up of 55 houses in detached, semi-detached, and townhouse designs; developed and constructed by local Ballymena building contractor Agon Ltd. Sleek, contemporary, and affordable, these homes are perfect for first time buyers looking to get on the property ladder.
McMillan Interiors (Ballymena based Interior Design Company) had the privilege of designing and styling the Showhouse for the final release of houses on the site. We wanted to create a haven of comfort, style and personality for prospective homeowners; a place that was bright but also cocooning, a place to entertain friends but also somewhere to retreat after a busy day, a place that was homely as well as luxurious. We chose contemporary, practical, and comfortable furniture, specified wallpaper for certain areas for interest, and custom made curtains, blinds, cushions and headboards.
After major structural and building work was completed, walls were painted and wallpapered, and carpet was fitted. Here is the interior of the house mid-progress:
We kept it largely neutral to give prospective owners a canvas upon which they could inject their personalities using their own decorative pieces, artwork, photographs, and mementoes. We can never pass up the opportunity to add a dash of colour and pattern though! For us, adding elements of colour and pattern to a home adds interest, character, joy and fun!
Thoughtfully considered touches of blue, teal, soft pink, orange, and sunny yellow pop against the groundwork of cream, grey and taupe. An assortment of printed and patterned fabrics also appear throughout the house – fabrics from Interior Design houses we love and trust, and whose quality and durability will serve the homeowners for years to come. Here’s a glimpse of the finished space!

CUSTOM WINDOW TREATMENTS
Investing in a house and decorating from scratch can be overwhelming, and at McMillan Interiors we completed this whole-house design on an affordable, first-time buyers budget; leaving space for the homeowners to evolve the space in the years ahead.
The good news is this fully furnished Showhouse will be open for viewing from Thursday 20th June. If you’re house-shopping, and in particular if you’re a first time buyer, the Killane Manor houses are an affordable option to view and consider. The site is located at:

Most people have heard of Airbnb. But for those who haven’t, let us give you a quick recap – Air bnb operates an online marketplace and hospitality service for people to lease or rent short-term lodging including holiday cottages, apartments, hostel beds or homesteads. Basically, they’re a platform for property owners to advertise their property (whether that’s a single room in their house, or an entire apartment or house) for hire. With over 300 million check-ins since its inception ten years ago, Air bnb is a favourite amongst business travellers and holiday-goers.
At the beginning of this year we worked with a couple who were turning their recently converted garage loft space into an Airbnb apartment. Situated in the Glens of Antrim, with stunning views of Slemish, it was the perfect place to indulge in a cosy log-cabin aesthetic! The brief was to advise on layout and furniture, and supply wallpapers, soft furnishings, floor tiles and lighting. Here’s the design scheme we came up with:
You’ll hear us say this more than once here…we were going for ultra cosy in this apartment! We didn’t have a real log-cabin to work with so we went for the next best thing – wallpapers giving the effect of rustic, aged, textured wood! The fire-place wall would be clad in that lovely warm logs paper and the two low side walls covered in the blue-and-ochre wooden planks paper. The clients had a grey sofa-bed, a couple of leather armchairs, and a tired beige armchair to use in the space. We recovered the back and seat cushions of the leather armchairs in a warm woollen tartan and on the beige armchair we used a textured blue weave with that fabulous Jane Churchill misty trees printed velvet wrapped around the back of the chair!
Again….ultra cosy was the goal here so we hunted down warm and rustic plaids and soft velvets and rich, autumnal colours! We made a feature wall using Linwood’s warm cream and taupe wallpaper depicting mountains, forests and deer and we loved it so much we used it in the printed velvet fabric on cushions! Elsewhere, we framed the doorway in heavy, luxurious Zoffany curtains with oversized tiebacks for fun! And we injected pops of plaids and tartans to ramp up the rustic log-cabin feel!
BATHROOM & KITCHEN:
The bathroom was mostly kitted out so we supplied a velux blind and that lovely marble-esque wallpaper (top left hand side). It’s important to have easy-to-keep, easy-to-clean materials in a bathroom (like tiles/porcelain/stone etc). But a durable, good-quality wallpaper shouldn’t be overlooked. It adds texture, pattern and warmth!
Likewise, there wasn’t a lot to be done in the kitchen, but we made up a pair of curtains for the window using the cream and taupe colours that feature throughout the whole apartment and re-clad a couple of bar stools in a sweet cream and turquoise butterfly fabric. Gorgeous cottage-y, rustic charm! Have a look at some in-progress shots!
Living Room wallpaper up and furniture recovered and going in! We found that large rug full of fresh turquoise and rusty red colours and we think it’s just perfect for the space! Cushions in a textured paisley embroidery add pattern and interest.
Bedroom paper up, curtains fitted, rug down and bed dressed. Note the green and red tartan trim on the leading edge of the curtains – as we love to say, details matter! This little two inch trim just finishes off these lovely, heavy curtains perfectly. This rug full of warm reds, oranges and greens was another winner find and just how cosy does that bed look!? Pile your bed high with cushions and throws for an instant cosy, boutique-hotel look and you’ll look forward to crawling into it every night!
Kitchen curtains fitted and framing that window beautifully. Again, note details at the top of the curtains – the inch high strip of plain turquoise fabric and the perfectly cottage-y white and beige gingham check…all adding pattern, colour, variety and interest! We couldn’t help but finish it off with a cute little pom-pom tie back. Warm, fresh, cosy! (there’s that word again!)
We left our clients a few months ago to finish off the space, add their own personal touch and ready the apartment for their first guests. Since then, it has proven to be a very successful holidaying venue! We’re delighted with how the space looks and we are excited that so many people are getting to use and enjoy it. Have a look at the client’s photos!
Stunning! Find more information or book to stay here.

Good morning friends and followers! We are hereby introducing a new regular instalment to our blog posts: Each month, we’ll be bringing you a monthly round some of our “Favourites”: products, collections and ranges, new sellers and suppliers we’ve sourced, trends we’re loving, projects we’re working on and whatever else we find inspiring and worth sharing! As designers we’re always sourcing new pieces, exploring collections and brands and keeping our eye on trends across interiors, fashion, product design and the art world. Anyway, enough of an introduction: let’s get stuck in to our favourites from June!
ABIGAIL AHERN: NEW PAINT RANGE
We are big fans of British interior and product designer Abigail Ahern who is known for her deliciously dark and moody interiors. Ahern famously paints out the walls of her interiors in rich, sludgey, “bottom-of-the-lake” hues and layers up faux botanicals, textures, art, furniture and decorative items throughout the space to create a very visually exciting, cool and layered space. A true maximalist! We love her style and fearless use of colour. Ahern has been selling paints for years, but just recently released a plethora of gorgeous new shades (some featured above). You can find the whole range here. What’s remarkable about these colours is that they all derive from natural sources, which gives them an extraordinary depth and richness; and creates some gorgeous effects, depending on the lighting in the space. These kinds of effects can’t be created with synthetic paints. The colours and chalky, matt finish will add instant cosiness, drama and character to any room and will play the perfect canvas for you to layer you furniture, decor and soft furnishings in front of!
JIM THOMPSON & GERT VOORJANS
American design house Jim Thompson has collaborated with Belgian interior designer Gert Voorjans to create a sumptuous, eclectic and striking collection of fabrics and trimmings. Voorjans style is daring, fearless and exceptional – this is a man who isn’t afraid of colour or pattern! He confidently clashes colours, and layers prints and textures to create vibrant, unusual, and imaginative spaces. Collaborating with Jim Thompson – the designer renowned for his use of richly coloured, luxurious silks – is a perfect match! We are in love with the collection, and while it’s certainly not for the faint hearted, it’s a collection sure to make an impression and create a fun, unique and memorable space! We’ve had a lot of exciting projects running on throughout June (which of course will be featured on the blog!). But until the grand reveal, here’s a sneak peek of some of our favourite projects from the last month:
The Chaise and Rocking Chair are both vintage items that we had re-padded and reupholstered – the Chaise is clad in a gorgeous Colefax velvet damask and Designers Guild lush green velvet. We gave it a new set of legs and can’t get over how stunning it is! And isn’t that Rocking Chair Fabulous? That Linwood velvet Cockatoo print is just perfect for this vintage piece! The Chaise is destined for a bedroom we’re working on and the Rocking Chair will sit in a Sunroom/Orangerie that we’ve designed!
For the same client, we’ve recovered this set of chairs in a flamboyant damask in a lush appliquéd velvet from Colefax. These will be finished with a few scatter cushions and will take pride of place in a bright and airy Kitchen we’ve been working on. Colefax fabrics are a real winner for us because they’re so well designed and executed, and are moreishly tactile – you just can’t help put touch and ‘oooh’ over the rich velvets, intricate embroideries and soft silks!
We’ve been working on an extension of a house to create a new sunroom, living and dining area, and kitchen for the homeowners. Here’s a peek at the progress of the space. Building work is almost finished, tiles have been laid and the kitchen is being installed. We have a bright, contemporary and sleek scheme planned for this space so keep your eyes peeled for updates on this project! Until then, can we just take a minute to appreciate that gorgeous arched window? Such a statement window and it brings in so much light!
This is a brand new project that we’ve just begun work on! This recreational cabin space is being extended and turned into a multi-purpose space; partially remaining recreational while also serving as a working studio. Beams, timber and insulation has all gone up, plumbing and pipes are being installed, and windows are on their way! We’ll be revealing more about this project in the next few weeks.
That’s us for this monthly round up! It’s been a busy month of moving projects forward and we even had a sneaky holiday squeezed in! We’ve much more to reveal and discuss throughout July; it’s going to be a busy month!
If you’re planning a home renovation – whether that’s just one room or a whole house overhaul – we’d love to help! We’d love to talk and discuss your ideas. Don’t hesitate to get in touch on 02825 880012 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
